I’ve installed Pureple. Now what?

Awesome!! Now you can start building your digital closet by adding your own clothes, shoes, accessories, makeup etc.

Do not forget to check the main menu on top left. In main menu, you will find options to create outfits, have Pureple suggest outfits for you, add outfits to Pureple calendar, check statistics on your wardrobe, make packing lists and check out Community to see inspiring looks.

How can I add my own clothes to Pureple?

You could add your own clothes & shoes & accessories & makeup & hairstyles etc. using the Add button on title bar. It gives four options to add an item: From our Wizard, web, by taking a photo or using existing ones from your photo library.

Although it takes a bit of getting used to, we recommend adding from wizard and web in the long run.

To add from Wizard:

  1. When you are on the ‘Wardrobe’ view, tap on ‘Add’ in the title bar
  2. Tap on ‘Wizard’. you will see a list of wardrobe staples.
  3. Tap on the ones that you have to select them.
  4. Tap ‘Done’ when you are done to easily add them to your wardobe.

To add from Web Page:

  1. When you are on the ‘Wardrobe’ view, tap on ‘Add’ in the title bar
  2. Tap on ‘Web Page’
  3. Type the description of the item you’d like to add e.g. “Gap skinny jeans”. (Tip: a description containing brand, color, style, item type usually return what you are looking for)
  4. This will search for the item you are looking for.
  5. If you see the item you are looking for, tap on “+” to add . Then tap on the item you’d like to add to your wardrobe. (PS: make sure to check the tip below)
  6. Next, you’ll be presented the ‘crop’ screen. Adjust the image frame to crop if you’d like to. You can skip this step is no cropping is needed.
  7. Next, you’ll be presented the ‘erase background’ screen. Adjust the sliding bar to erase the background. You can skip this step, too.
  8. The item is added to your wardrobe. Tap on another item and repeat from step 6 or go back to search for another item using the ‘<‘ back button.

To add from Camera:

  1. When you are in ‘Wardrobe’ view, tap on ‘Add’ in the title bar. Then tap on ‘Camera’
  2. Capture the photo of your item
  3. Next, you’ll be presented the ‘crop’ screen. Adjust the image frame to crop if you’d like to. You can skip this step is no cropping is needed.
  4. Next, you’ll be presented the ‘erase background’ screen. Adjust the sliding bar to erase the background. You can skip this step, too.
  5. The item is added to your wardrobe. Now you can set the category of the item and fill in other details you’d like to add.
  6. Go back to the ‘Wardrobe’ view via ‘<‘ back button

To add from Photo Library:

  1. When you are on the ‘Wardrobe’ view, tap on ‘Add’ in the title bar. Then tap on ‘Photo Library’.
  2. Select the photo(s) you’d like to add. Then tap ‘Done’.
  3. Next, you’ll be asked if you’d like to add them under a specific category or under ‘Not Categorized’.
  4. The items are now added to your wardrobe. Now you can set the properties e.g. season, occasion, color, brand, size and if added as ‘Not Categorized’, the category of the items.
  5. Go back to the ‘Wardrobe’ view via ‘<‘ back button

Tips on taking photos for closet

  1. Laying the garment on the ground works better for heavy fabrics. Hanging on a wall works better for light fabrics.
  2. If laying on the ground, a hard (smooth) surface reduces shadows and produces better results. Hardwood floors, light color carpet, thick paper, mats are few ideas to try.
  3. If hanging, we use a clear pin used on cork boards on a light colored wall. And pick the wall that gets the best light.
  4. Using a clear plastic hanger such as the ones used in stores or a wood hanger makes hanger less noticeable. Pick a hanger properly sized and stick to the same hanger for consistency.
  5. Using the same background on all photos will help when they are used in an outfit together.
  6. If the background color is fairly different than the item’s own colors, background eraser does a better job erasing it. Especially for dark colored items on light color background.
  7. Last but maybe most important, taking the photo in daylight, in a well lit room. It makes a huge difference.
  8. Nothing beats the quality of a professionally taken photo, under best lighting and potentially Photoshopped. So please consider adding from web.
How can I delete an item?

You can easily delete item(s) in your closet via these two ways:

  1. To delete one item at a time:
    • Tap and open an item you’d like to delete. This should take you to the item details page.
    • Scroll down under the image till you see ‘Delete’.
    • Tap on ‘Delete’.
  2. Deleting multiple items at once:
    • Go to wardrobe view
    • Tap on the checkbox on top left corner of an item to select it. You can select multiple items.
    • Along with a check mark on the selected item, you will also see a blueish ‘settings icon’ that appears towards the bottom of the screen. Tap on the setting icon and you’ll be presented with options e.g. ‘Delete’ or ‘Categorize’.
    • Tap on ‘Delete’ in order to delete the selected items.

How can I set or change the category of an item?

Categories are generally intended to describe the function of an item. It can be high level e.g. ‘Top’, ‘Bottom’, ‘Shoes’ or can be more specific e.g. ‘Sandals’, ‘Pumps’, Sneakers’. Pureple comes with the most common fundamental categories defined. You can add your own categories (as many as you need) to suit your needs. You can also delete any category that you do not need.

When you add an item to your wardrobe from web, it is listed as ‘Not Categorized’. To set or edit the category of the item, there are two ways:

  1. To categorize one item at a time:
    • Tap and open an item you’d like to categorize. This should take you to the item details page.
    • Scroll down under the image till you see ‘Categories’.
    • Tap on ‘Categories’ and select the applicable categories for the item.
  2. Categorizing multiple items at once:
    • Go to wardrobe view
    • Tap on the checkbox on top left corner of an item to select it. You can select multiple items.
    • Along with a check mark on the selected item, you will also see a blueish ‘settings icon’ that appears towards the bottom of the screen. Tap on the setting icon and you’ll be presented with options e.g. ‘Delete’ or  Set ‘Category’, ‘Brand’ etc.
    • Tap on ‘Category’ and select the applicable categories for the items you’ve picked.

If the category for the item is missing from the default list, you can add it by tapping on ‘Add’ at the bottom of the list. Please see ‘How to add a custom category’ below for details. You can also delete unwanted category names here by tapping ‘Delete’ and then selecting category name to be deleted.

While categories are intended mainly for ‘function’, there is no restriction if you’d like to use them for a custom reason e.g. wishlist, inspiration, …  to make it work for you.

How can I add a custom category e.g. for Sweaters?

You can create a custom category for ‘Hair Styles’ and another for ‘Sweaters’ (another for jewelry etc..). To create a custom category, please:

  1. Go to ‘Wardrobe’ view
  2. Select any item in your wardrobe (e.g. a dress)
  3. Scroll down and tap on ‘Categories’
  4. Tap on  ‘Add’
  5. Type the category name e.g. Sweaters and tap on Add. The category is added now and you return to the item details view.
  6. Tap on categories again
  7. You’ll now see the category you’ve just added in the list. You can start using the newly added category just like the other categories.You can add as many category as you like.

How can I delete a category e.g. Tops (or Occasion/Weather/Color/Brand/Size/Location/Material etc.) I no longer need ?

You can delete the categories (or Occasion/Weather/Color/Brand/Size/Location/Material etc.) you do not need. To delete a category (or Occasion/Weather/Color/Brand/Size/Location/Material etc.), please:

  1. Go to ‘Wardrobe’ view
  2. Select any item in your wardrobe (e.g. a dress)
  3. Scroll down and tap on ‘Categories’ (or Occasion/Weather/Color/Brand/Size/Location/Material etc.)
  4. Tap on  “Remove”
  5. Tap on the category to delete. It is now deleted and you return to the item details view.

If you tap on categories again, you’ll now see that the category you’ve just deleted is no longer in the list.

How can I edit category names?
You can rename a category by

  1. Go to Wardrobe page
  2. Tap on the pencil icon (✏️) next to the category name you’d like edit
  3. Tap Rename ‘Category Name’ .

Alternatively, you can try following to edit Category/Occasion/Weather/Color/Brand/Size/Location/Material etc. names:

  1. Delete the Category (or Occasion/Weather/Color/Brand/Size/Location/Material etc.) name you’d like to change. You can do this from any item’s detail page by taping Categories (or Occasion/Weather/Color/Brand/Size/Location/Material etc.) field.
  2. Create a new category (or Occasion/Weather/Color/Brand/Size/Location/Material etc.) with preferred name
  3. Move all items under the old category (or Occasion/Weather/Color/Brand/Size/Location/Material etc.) into the new one at once with Multi edit feature (described here).

How can I filter my clothes by category i.e. to see only the shoes?

From the Wardrobe view:

  1. Tap on the magnifier icon
  2. Select the category you’d like to filter for
  3. Now you’ll only see the items under the selected category.
  4. To see all your items again , please select ‘all’ as category while filtering

You can also filter by category while creating outfits.

How can I add an outfit/item to calendar?

There are two ways you can add an outfit or item to the calendar.

From the outfit/item details view:

  1. Go to the outfit/item you’d like to add to the calendar
  2. Scroll to find the ‘Calendar (+)’  and tap on it.
  3. The calendar will pop up. Tap on the day you’d like to add the outfit/item for.
  4. Tap on ✓  and confirm the adding with ‘ok’ button.
  5. You’ll see the date you’ve added listed in the Calendar field!

From the Calendar view:

  1. Go to ‘Calendar’ view and select the date you’d like to add an outfit/item
  2. Tap on ‘Update/view selected date details’
  3. Tap on the ‘+’ to add an item/outfit
  4. Select the item/outfit you’d like to add, then tap ‘Choose’.
  5. You’ll see the item/outfit added. Use the red (x) to remove the item/outfit from the calendar if needed.
  6. Go back to the ‘Calendar’ view using the ‘<‘ back button.

How can I make an outfit?

You can put together different items in your closet to make full outfits.

To make an outfit yourself:

  1. Please tap on the left top corner for main menu and then go to Outfits (or pull right)
  2. Then tap on “Create” on the right top corner
  3. This will present you an empty canvas and a sliding window at the bottom that contains all items in your wardrobe. You could either slide through all items in your wardrobe or use the “Filter” button on top right to filter your items by category e.g. shoes, skirts etc.
  4. Tap on an item in the sliding window to add it to the outfit canvas. You can add more items by tapping on them.
  5. You can add/remove/resize/rotate/rearrange items. If you’d like to remove an item from canvas, please tap on the “x”
  6. To resize an item, pinch it in/out with two fingers
  7. To rotate an item, grab and rotate using two fingers.
  8. To move an item, tap and hold while moving.
  9. Once you are done, you can save the outfit by tapping on the “Save” button on the top right corner.

How can I edit an outfit?

To edit an outfit:

  • Go to the ‘Outfit’ view and tap on the outfit you’d like to edit
  • Scroll down and tap on Edit
  • It should trigger the edit mode, allowing you to add/remove/replace items, resize, rotate and rearrange them.
  • Tap ‘Save’ when done.
How can I delete an outfit?
To delete an outfit:
  • Go to the ‘Outfits’ page and tap on the outfit you’d like to delete
  • Scroll down and tap on ‘Delete’
Or to delete multiple outfits at a time:
  • Go to the ‘Outfits’ page

How can I have Pureple suggest outfits for me?

To see outfit suggestions:

  • Go to main menu on the top left corner
  • Tap ‘Suggest Outfit’
  • Select what kind of items you’d like to see in your outfit
  • Tap ‘Done’
  • You will start seeing the outfit suggestions.
  • Swipe right for the ones you like and left for the ones you don’t. This helps us understand your personal style.
  • Tap ‘Save’ on top sight corner to save an outfit to your ‘Outfits’

To see suggestions for a specific item:

  • Go to the details page of the item you’d like to wear
  • Scroll under the picture and tap ‘Suggest outfit for this’
  • Select what kind of items you’d like to see in your outfit
  • Tap ‘Done’
  • You will start seeing the outfit suggestions.
  • Swipe right for the ones you like and left for the ones you don’t. This helps us understand your personal style.
  • Tap ‘Save’ on top sight corner to save an outfit to your ‘Outfits’
How can I share my outfit with Pureple Community?
You can share your outfit with Pureple community by
  • Go to the ‘Outfits’ page and tap on the outfit you’d like to delete
  • Scroll down and tap on ‘Share with community’
How can I share my outfit with friends or social media?
You can share your outfit with friends or social media by
  • Go to the ‘Outfits’ page and tap on the outfit you’d like to delete
  • Scroll down and tap on ‘Share with a friend’
  • You’ll see options to share it via  iMessage, mail, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Airdrop and others.

Is my closet private? Does anyone else see my items/outfits?

Your closet is private. The pictures you take or import from your photo library stays in your phone and no one has access to them. An item or outfit becomes visible to us or Pureple community only if you choose to share it using ‘Ask community opinion’ or allow others visit your wardrobe to make outfits for you by turning on ‘Others can create outfits for me’ from main Menu/Account.

For the items you add from web, the picture and a link to the original web location got posted to Trending, as this is already publicly available in the web. However, these items cannot be associated with you in any way. Please feel free to send us an email if you have any questions and concerns. Your privacy is very important to us and we want you to rest assured.

How can I print hard copies of items and outfits in my closet?

In order to print an item or outfit:

  1. Go to the details view of the item or outfit.
  2. Under the photo, tap on ‘’Ask a friend’s opinion”.
  3. Tap on ‘Print’.

How can I save the photo of items and outfits in my closet to my photo library?

In order to save an item or outfit:

  1. Go to the details view of the item or outfit.
  2. Under the photo, tap on ‘’Share with a friend”.
  3. Tap on ‘Save’.

How can I recover my closet if I accidentally delete Pureple, lose my phone or buy a new phone (no pro account)?

With Pro account, you can log in with your username and password and sync or restore your closet on any device.

To sync, please
  • On the device that has your most up to date closet, go to Account
  • Tap ‘Sync Now’. This will make sure our servers is updated with the most recent changes.
  • On your other device, go to Account
  • Log in if not already using the same email.
  • Tap ‘Sync Now’
If you’d like to do a one time transfer, you can go to Subscriptions under settings and end your subscription after the transfer is complete. This will charge you for 1 month only, which is $1.99. This is a paid feature because, we need to host your wardrobe on a cloud service provider to transfer this way and it’s a paid service by cloud service providers e.g. Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure.

If you have not upgraded to Pureple Pro, you can still backup your closet and restore in case of e.g. accidentally deleting Pureple as follows:

When moving from an old device to a newer device, we recommend getting latest update of Pureple, take a fresh backup and then restore on new device using that backup.

Your phone is backed up on iCloud automatically by default on iCloud. You can also manually backup on iCloud or on your computer with iTunes. Please see this from Apple for more details.

First make sure you have any recent backups of your phone either on iTunes or iCloud. If so, you can restore your phone from the backup and recover your closet.

How to check if you have a backup on iCloud:

Use these steps on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

    1. Tap Settings > iCloud. If you’re using iOS 8 or later, tap Storage > Manage Storage. …
    2. Tap the name of your iOS device.
    3. Check ‘Latest Backup’. If you see a date for a backup and a size bigger than zero, you have a backup. Please make sure the date of the backup is current where you have Pureple installed and has your closet.
    4. Please also verify that Pureple is enabled in ‘Backup Options’. If it is enabled and you have a backup, then you can recover your closet. If not, please enable backup for Pureple and take a new backup from your old phone.

Once you confirm you have a backup containing Pureple, please restore your new device from the backup by following Apple’s instructions here, under the title of ‘Restore from an iCloud backup’

If you would like to restore from  iTunes backup instead, please follow instructions from Apple here, under iTunes title.

 

How to discontinue paid membership?

You can cancel your subscription any time by following Apple’s instructions here. :

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. On the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap App and iTunes Stores.
  3. Tap your Apple ID.
  4. Tap View Apple ID. You might need to sign in.
  5. Under Subscriptions, tap Manage.
  6. Tap the subscription that you want to manage. (Pureple in this case)
  7. Use the options to manage your subscription. You can choose a different subscription period, or turn off Automatic Renewal.
  8. Turn off Automatic Renewal to cancel a subscription. Your subscription will stop at the end of the current billing cycle.

      Yes! If you turn on “Community can create outfits for me” under Main menu/Account, your circle and Pureple community will be able to see your wardrobe and create outfits for you.
